Dear Friends,
Psalm 89 recounts the faithfulness of God with His people, clearly articulating the 'steadfast love of the Lord', His 'faithfulness to all generations' and even His 'covenant with my chosen one' (David the King, also pointing forward to the Messiah to come). God is faithful.
Then, after all that (and more), he writes:' 'How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever?"
That's where we live today (well that's me at least). We know the promises of God, His faithfulness, His provision and His help in so many ways, and still we continue to cry out to him for some resolution to our current situation in the midst of a pandemic, or whatever we are asking and for which we still wait.
In the Psalm, there is no clear resolution; no answer to the cry of his heart; no change in the circumstances: all he can do is recount the deeds and works of the Lord, call out to Him today, and he rests, ending the Psalm with a firm resolve: "Blessed be the Lord forever!"
If you are that person that is asking the Lord, "How long. ..?" know that I am right beside you. Now, together we stand and recall, reflect on God's faithfulness in the past — his promises, steadfast love, and more — AND we rest together with confidence and say: "Blessed be the Lord forever."
