YWAM is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions dedicated to knowing God and making God known throughout the world. The movement began in 1960 and was started to get young people involved in outreach. They still do that today but they are involved in every kind of ministry and outreach imaginable. They have over 18,000 staff in over 180 locations in countries around the world. Their many ministries fit into 3 categories:
- Evangelism – Everyone has the right to hear about Jesus
- Training – to equip people to use their unique calling to evangelize. Everyone must complete an intense half year of DTS (Discipleship Training School) prior to completing a Mission trip
- Mercy Ministries – giving hope to poor, sick and those suffering from injustice
There are many opportunities to serve:
- On a ship: YWAM has more than 20 vessels that provide medical and dental care, disaster relief supplies, Bible distribution and community development
- Provide Bibles to Bible-less languages and help people create oral translations of Bible stories
- Reach unreached people: YWAM offers in-depth training programs, coaching and provides partners to evangelize throughout the world
- Provide university training: The University of the Nations offers associate, bachelor and master degrees in Christian ministry, the arts, education, counseling and communication.
Grace Church has been partnered with Dan and Sarah Hall located in Dunham, Quebec. Dan and Sarah grew up in this church, leading youth groups and VBS before joining YWAM. They just celebrated their 15 year wedding anniversary in September. Sarah, a talented musician and artist is currently pursuing completion of her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia U. in Montreal. Some of her paintings are displayed on the walls of our Sanctuary. Dan is beginning his Masters in Team-Based Communication through the University of the Nations. They are both teaching in the School of Biblical Studies and Dan also is helping with the fall DTS. They are a very busy couple, completely dedicated to serving God and following His lead.
Dunham is a bilingual school offering:
- Arts and music DTS
- School of digital filmmaking
- School of acting for the screen
